Seven hip-hop dancers embark on a frenetic race of productivity, excellence, and power. But at what cost? In the never-ending quest of “always more”, revolt begins to brew…A sumptuous chiaroscuro heightens the intensity of the dancers’ conflicting bodies and bursting emotions. Dans L’Engrenage melds urban, contemporary dance with more traditional rhythms from the Arab world, posing a vital question to the audience: how can we imagine a future and preserve the pleasures of life without harming others? A dance of pure raw energy that will take your breath away.

Super Mario Bros au 150e anniversaire de l’Harmonie Municipale. Avec des percussions et des instruments à vent, l’orchestre eschois revisite le répertoire des musiques de World of Warcraft ou encore de Call of Duty. Accompagnées de projections, les compositions sont portées sur scène pour immerger le public dans l’ambiance des jeux vidéos. Au travers d’arrangements musicaux riches et inspirés qui s’adressent à tou·tes les geeks et/ou mélomanes, il ne sera pas seulement question de se tourner vers le passé en soufflant une 150e bougie, mais bien d’apprécier la musique de jeu vidéo pour ce qu’elle est : une culture vivante.

Les célébrations se poursuivent avec une séance académique le 26 mars.

La mer

Among the tall grass, a stoic garden gnome encounters a traveling rat with an unexpected adventure in mind! After some fear and misunderstanding, this encounter will spawn a lively and lasting friendship. Deflated tires become rafts, seashells rustle with the mysterious song of the waves, and the audience – shrunken between flowerpots and dandelions – will laugh and tremble alongside our two heroes. A fantastic epic for little ones who dream big, and for older ones who are children at heart.

Pénélope

Pénélope, wife of Ulysses, the model of the submissive wife who stays loyal to an absent man? Among the most important choreographers of contemporary French dance, Jean-Claude Gallota revisits Homer’s myth as well as the long-standing codes of classical ballet. Turning his back on the immaculate purity that characterized the production of Ulysses that made him famous, Gallotta’s Pénelope offers a darker, more vital counterpoint. Electrified by sensual impulses that are magnified through moments of acceleration, repose, lifts, and stillness, the ten artists deliver a joyous and uninhibited performance.

Play Replay

Chases, dichotomous protagonists and all kinds of explosions launch circus performers from The Rat Pack company into new cinematic spheres. In a 16:9 screen-shaped decor, six actors and actresses show audacity, talent, and inventiveness on the set of the burglary of the century. An action-packed scenario lies ahead!  With comedian Jos Houben as an accomplice, Play Replay plays with action film’s tropes, adding to them a hefty dose of virtuosity and self-mockery. With BOLD duo’s electro soundtrack, such a rare cocktail can only be tasty.

Folia

Baroque and hip-hop bring about an atmosphere of folly. In a flurry of costumes and decors on a par with Italian theaters’ greatest machineries, nineteen artists execute a performance of epic proportions. The musicians’ strings, a soprano’s voice and the dancers’ steps – mixing hip-hop and classical repertoire – intertwine skillfully. From traditional South-American traditional melodies to electronic beats, choreographer Mourad Merzouki take it up a notch with an ever quicker and livelier pace, which carries this whole sophisticated crowd away into a final, mind-blowing whirlwind.

New Year Eve’s concert

2023’s New Year Eve’s concert travels across South America. On this occasion, Gast Waltzing conducts chamber orchestra Estro Armonico with guests – among others – Jérôme Goldschmidt from Luxembourg, a specialist in Latin percussions, and harmonicist Pablo Fagundes, who respectively played with legends David Gilmour and Toots Thielemans. One will come across bossa nova, salsa, tango, samba… and choro, which was born in the 19th century, a cornerstone of Brazilian musical identity and epitomizing its mixed origins – African, European, and Native ones. This is a concert for all apasionado·as of music and América Latina.

Le coup d’envoi des célébrations du 150e anniversaire de l’Harmonie Municipale d’Esch/Alzette aura bien lieu. Prévu en 2020 et reporté en raison de la pan- démie, ce concert propose une programmation musicale éclectique. Les compositions de Chostakovitch (Festive Overture, Op. 96) introduiront la soirée pour laisser dans un deuxième temps le trompettiste Philippe Neumann interpréter une œuvre de Sandro Bucciarelli. Le compositeur luxembourgeois Marco Pütz mettra ensuite en lumière une grande variété de registres avec Concerto for Wind Orchestra, quand l’orchestre eschois puisera pour finir dans la mythologie grecque avec la suite pour grand orchestre d’harmonie d’Óscar Navarro.

Les célébrations se poursuivent en 2023 avec un autre concert les 10 et 11 mars, puis une séance académique le 26 mars.

Natchav

What if we broke away? In the first light of dawn, on a little town’s main square, a large marquee points towards the sky: Natchav circus has arrived. “In the name of safety”, authorities are not too pleased and resort to locking away one of the acrobats.
Company Les ombres portées – creating live its shows’ shades, sound effects and music – invites us into the backstage of a wonderful evasion. A superb visual tapestry, Natchav (“leaving, running away” in the Romani language) tells the story of a circus which, to stay free, will defy all laws – including that of gravity.

Adrienne Haan sings Kurt Weill

Adrienne Haan, a German-Luxemburgish singer who performed at legendary Manhattan’s Carnegie Hall, sings Kurt Weill. At the crossroads between drama and opera, this German-born composer, who went into exile in the United States, is known to have been censured by the Nazi regime owing to its Jewish descent and his sympathy for communism. Adrienne Haan interprets his most beautiful songs, offering a musical voyage in German, French and English through time and the continents, from the Weimar Berlin period of the 1920s to his exile years in France in the 30s all the way to New York’s Broadway of the 40s.
