Lia Rodrigues, a leading figure in committed contemporary dance, works with her company in the heart of the Maré favela in Rio de Janeiro. With an irresistible collective strength, her shows often feature dancers covered in fabric or plastic materials or nude, bound indissolubly together by an intense and fervent closeness. Borda is more than ever in this vein. Dance here counters walls and rejection, through a universal community eager for movement, sharing and new horizons. Are borders an illusion?
Vínculos
It was in the zambras of Sacromonte, a series of caves in the Gypsy quarter of Granada, that Fuensanta La Moneta learned her art, like so many other great names in flamenco. In three tableaux featuring styles such as seguiriya, soleá and tango, Vínculos celebrates the links between the music of composer Mauricio Sotelo, a long-time companion of the Andalusian artist, and the wild and intimate dance she cherishes. At once present and very much elsewhere, in a place chosen by her alone, where she does not have to answer to anyone, La Moneta presents a flamenco of incandescent beauty, impossible to possess.

El Jorobado de Sevilla
Once upon a time, there was a hunchback named Diego, consumed with love for Giralda. He lived in the shadow of a bell tower, hidden among the gargoyles. Was his hump an obstacle? On the contrary, he used it to dance every night, under the stars and for Giralda … An adept of an inclusive style of flamenco, Sevillian choreographer José Galan blends the Middle Ages – its wonder and its legends – with guitar, castanets and Andalusian ruffle dresses. El Jorobado de Sevilla conveys a joyful and enchanting flamenco, that is also a formidable call to respect for difference.

Legends
Mythological, medieval and fantastic, legends and fairy tales span the centuries. They carry timeless values … and majestic sonorities! The Harmonie Municipale Esch-sur-Alzette sets out to rediscover these compositions that capture the imagination. A story written and told by Luxembourgish storyteller François Conrad will be combined with music inspired by legendary accounts, before the instruments sound Johan de Meij’s melodies from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Timepieces
Going against conventions, debunking habits, and playing with instruments both possible and impossible. This overt audacity is Louisa Marxen’s driving force. In Timepieces, cymbals and drums are accompanied by curious objects: a clock, mortar shell casings from the Second World War and even a bag packed with multicoloured ping-pong balls. Against a backdrop of original compositions by Catherine Kontz and Louis Andriessen, among others, the Luxembourgish musician performs magnificent combinations. Rhythms and percussion offer a one-of-a-kind sound experience that encourages us to reflect differently on our notion of time.
CRACK
A world figure of contemporary dance, Po-Cheng Tsai draws on traditional Asian movements and martial arts. Combining bonding, suspensions, shivers and breaks, CRACK plunges 13 extraordinarily virtuosic dancers into the torments of a break-up. When a relationship made up of silences shatters like a block of ice, what do you do with the old wounds, the buried frustrations that resurface? “Dance!”, the Taiwanese choreographer will answer. Following on from his successes with Rage and Floating Flowers, his raw talent enables him, once again, to touch the subtle depth of feelings.
Teatro di Verzura
What if opera led us into the heart of a lush garden, populated by plants with forgotten names, migrating roots and invisible beings? Teatro di Verzura is an invitation to see and hear differently. In this show, baroque music deploys all its power, carried by the singing of cantoLX and the richness of ancient instruments. Artist Lise Duclaux – also on stage – leads us, through her texts and drawings, into a dialogue with the vegetal realm. She reveals a microcosm hidden from our fleeting glance: a world where humans are no longer the only things at the centre of the living world.
An introduction to the show will take place on 20/11 at 7.15pm.
A discussion with the artistic team will take place on 21/11 after the performance.
Cher Cinéma
Gallotta? A name that revolutionised contemporary dance, subtly fusing desire, frenzy and gentleness. One enters this show a bit like in a movie theatre. In the half-light, antechamber to the imagination, light suddenly appears: no big screen here, but dance! With a troupe of nine dancers, Jean-Claude Gallotta celebrates his encounters with the directors who have mattered to him – Federico Fellini and Leos Carax, Jean-Luc Godard and Tonie Marshall … This homage gives birth to a joyful, carnal and intimate ballet. The choreographer’s voice-over takes on the tone of a shared confidence, conveying to us, like an offering, his love of cinema.
An introduction to the show by the artistic team will take place at 7.15pm (FR).
Symfonia
In a manner all his own, Kader Attou infuses hip-hop aesthetics into contemporary dance pieces. With Symfonia, he revives a successful show that draws on the emotional power of Henryk Górecki’s hypnotic Symphony No 3. Solemn and heartbreaking, this score is a tribute to the Mother and womanhood. The acrobatic spinning of breakdance intertwines with the aerial movement of classical ballet. Although the ten men and women on stage mostly wear sneakers, the music propels them into a world of interiority and mystery, in a resolutely languorous, expansive and fraternal dance.
