What if disappointment was something every nation was aiming for? After Simone Mousset’s 2017 production of the same name, resulting in a ballet documentary about the fictional Ballet National Folklorique du Luxembourg, this new collaboration with Lewys Holt playfully and darkly addresses feelings of pride and disappointment. Influenced by the generally worrying geopolitical evolutions of late, the theatre is transformed into a new country, where there are no storms and where there are all the cows and horses we need.
Following the success of its first edition in 2018, Independent Little Lies – ILL will present its second festival Queer Little Lies on November 12 – 14th at the Escher Theater. Performances, movies, round-tables, workshops, a masterclass and a party to round it all up: on three days, artists from Luxembourg and abroad will queer your understandings of bodies, sexuality and desire. Be ready to challenge the norms!

Le samedi 6 mars de 10h à 12h, autour du spectacle tock tock, Annick Pütz propose un atelier au cours duquel les binômes parent-enfant sont invités à inventer des rapports ludiques qui peu à peu deviennent intentions, rythmes et danse.
BAL: Pride and Disappointment is a collaboration between Simone Mousset, our associate artist, and Lewys Holt (UK). It is inspired by the impact of Simone’s work BAL (2017), which produced, first, great national pride and then, when the truth was revealed, great national disappointment. The new work, which is a semi-autobiographical semi-documentary, playfully and darkly addresses these feelings of pride and disappointment in relation to an imaginary nation state, influenced by the climate of nationalist populism and the generally worrying geopolitical evolutions of late, wherein economic protectionism and conservatism are on the rise. The theatre is transformed into a new country, where there are no storms and where there are all the cows and horses we need! Simone and Lewys would like to share the beginnings of this exciting new work (in progress) with you.

Atelier de danse en binôme parent-enfant animé par Jennifer Gohier, chorégraphe du spectacle Sac-à-dos. L’atelier proposera une incursion ludique et chorégraphiée dans les danses du monde que la chorégraphe aura rapportées de pays comme l’Ethiopie, l’Indonésie ou encore l’Argentine. Atelier de jeu théâtral et musical sans parole avec Gaël Michaux et Maxime Dautremont, artistes du spectacle Déconcerto. Dans le même esprit que la pièce, que l’on ne peut que recommander, les participant.e.s découvriront les sonorités et musicalités que peuvent créer des objets du quotidien tels que des tubes ou des bouteilles, pour en faire, en groupe(s), de la musique !
Autour du piano, sur scène, les cordes vocales des participant.e.s vibreront comme jamais au rythme des plus célèbres pages musicales de Broadway (I feel pretty, I got rythm) et des chants traditionnels américains (Oh, when the saints, Amazing grace). Les enfants y trouveront pleinement leur compte puisque des chansons bien connues de tous comme Old MacDonald had a farm ou If you are happy and you know it figurent également dans le répertoire joyeusement concocté par Stephany Ortega et Léna Kollmeier, artistes du spectacle American Soul aux manettes de cet atelier.

Le popping c’est quoi ? Une danse née en Californie dans les années 70, qui se danse partout aujourd’hui et dont le principe consiste à contracter et décontracter les muscles en rythme sur de la musique (voir une vidéo ici). Artiste-interprète du spectacle d’ouverture de saison La finale, Sonia Bel Hadj Brahim vous fera découvrir cette danse dans la bonne humeur et en toute décontraction. Cet atelier découverte sera suivi d’un brunch offert par la maison !
A stage occupied by the audience with no set nor actors in sight: the Kappkino concept breaks the rules of classical theater to free imagination. The audience will only get to know the story when the performance starts. The dialogues, the sounds and the music will be performed live in the darkness to create an intimate and surreal mood that will ensure the audience’s total immersion. Everything is suggested, so that everyone can feel the power of their imagination.
