The Escher Theater

The project

The Escher Theater stages shows performed by visiting theatrical companies as well as presenting its own productions. Since 2018, it has been headed up by the theatre director Carole Lorang. Each season, it presents some fifty shows from the worlds of theatre, dance, Circus and music, including not only productions emanating from the European scene but also home-grown works from Luxembourg. A multi-lingual programme of shows, staged primarily in French and German. One of the key aspects of its project has been its shows aimed at younger audiences, along with shows which affirm – through the use of humour in particular – its mission to question reality.

With its two performance venues, the Theater and the Ariston, Escher Theater is conceived as a place for encounters, an open space where audiences are invited to discover, experiment and exchange ideas — whether around a performance, a workshop or a meal at the bistro.

The historic venue of Escher Theater, the Theater hosts major productions. It has a seating capacity of 517.

The Ariston

9, rue Pierre Claude, L-4063 Esch-sur-Alzette

A former cinema converted into the theatre’s second venue for Esch2022, European Capital of Culture, the Ariston is particularly suited to more intimate formats and emerging artistic work. It has a seating capacity of 152.

The team

The Escher Theater has nearly 50 permanent employees and welcomes numerous artists, performers and technicians (intermittents du spectacle).
